There is a memory from my childhood that returns to me often. It is of my parents standing by the television, watching the evening news and recoiling at the anti-farming rhetoric being reported that day.

Most days I feel overriding gratitide for the opportunity we have been given to live and work on this farm.

As much as I dislike the supermarkets and what they represent, the undeniable convenience they offer has cemented them as an inevitable element of modern consumerism, even for an anti like me. 

You often hear us farmers shouting about our world leading welfare standards and intensely regulated supply chains. 

Many of those I hold dearest to me are farmers.

Perhaps it was because we had our whole herd tb test looming the next day and my mind was already clouded, but I couldn't stop the words from ringing in my ears.

I try to visualise British farming 30 years from now and wonder how it might look.

We seem to have become embroiled in a war with our political leaders.  

If the political unrest of the last week and the looming threat of international conflict isn't enough to jolt our Government into stopping their pursuit of ruining the British farming industry, I don't know what is.

Amongst the hustle and bustle of London yesterday there was such solidarity for our farmers.

It was impossible not to feel overwhelmed with emotion and pride watching tractors roll into the capital today.

Click here to add text.There were no surprises in yesterday's budget. It was laced with catastrophic implications for small family farms, and considering the inevitable outcomes, it's hard to believe that any thought has actually been given to the consequences.
